Raymond W. Thorp wrote a book on Johnston, which I'm sure you've read. His estate is in LA. Have you tried the library in LA? Or have you written any of the towns where he was deputy Sherriff?
:
: I'm writing a biography on the real life "Jeremiah Johnston of Hollywood fame. His real name was John Johnston aka Liver Eating Johnston.
: He supposedly was a sailor during the Mexican American war but deserted when he had "shore leave."
: Does anyone know where a sailor could have shore leave during the war? (Unless the war was over and he got off in California). I have no real time lines - sorry.
